LibreOffice (ODT) template format for header and footer

Hi, this is linked to post Templates (invoice, quotes etc..), how to?

Th PHP is way to complicated to replicate a template, i really dont want to learn how the whole system works to create a template, however we do need PDF output, so have been looking at the LibreOffice method, we started to create a template but this raised a huge question… we cant see anyway for this template to show HOW MANY lines it can show before it starts a new page.

So how do we format the whole page to make sure it has the same header and footer on every page and not just 9 pages with a single header on page 1 and the footer on page 9, every page must have the header and footer.

So how does this system know how many rows it can create on each page before it starts a new fresh page template? Quickbooks has an area thats set for the LINES and in this area each line is created so it then knows what a line is and how much of an area it has before it starts a new page.

The ODT in the system is good to know what it can output, but there doesnt appear to be a full template to show this example.

Hi,
as I struggeled as with the PDF template due to the lack of PHP programming skill, I tried the “ODT way”. I run into the same issue as you described. We need for our company the same header an footer on all pages of a quote or invoicing document. As it seems there’s no way to create and ODT template which fits to our requirements.
I am curious if you found a solution.

Research and Development for this ERP was shelved, although not abandoned…

  • There’s no good timesheet integration to the ERP so we are unable to track or invocie time
  • Creating an invoice had some serouse bug (from memory_ when adding a line, we were unable to add DETAILS fro that line until it was saved then re-opened to then add the details, this makes it twice the work to create an invoice in this ERP over Quickbooks
  • We had the above template problem, so unfortunately, Quickbooks (desktop, not the cloud one) can have custom templates, create an invoice and edit line details LIVE before saving the invoice and it has a timesheet system that can track time (external but it works).

I am kinda suprised that still after all this time Quickbooks still does more than ANY Invoice system

Hi,

the invoice problems I cannot reproduce and several time tracking solutions are available in the dolistore. But answering to the ODT creation: Just specify the header in the header area of the page within LibreOffice and it will automatically appear on all pages. No need to mess with line numbers etc. There is even an option in LibreOffice to control that the header on the first page may be different from the one on the following pages. Same applies to the footer. Also for tables you can specify that the heading line is repeated after each page break.

But I agree that there are not many practical examples of real life odt templates around, so creating them needs more fiddling around than necessary.
