In dolibarr 10 I use that feature and it is great !
But I my case of use I encountered a non desirable behavior :
On first setup I choose 3 digits ones {ttt}{000}
But after a few work I decided to change for 4 digits ones {tttt}{000}
The automatic incrementation appears to be broke after this and I did not find a way to grab the correct number with the 4 digits code_client.

This is normal, when you changed it restart from 0.
Try to do {tttt+xxx}{000} where xxx is the last code of the previous mask
